Novillada en Sevilla

The Ten Must-See Bullfighting Line-ups in Seville

Do you want to see bullfighting in Seville but your travel dates do not match the Feria de Abril? Don’t worry — you still have the chance to visit La Maestranza during May and June. There are promising young matadors and plenty of reasons to make the pilgrimage to this legendary arena. Take a look…

Seville is not only about the Feria de Abril, and La Maestranza is not limited to major star-studded bullfights. For those who cannot visit the Andalusian capital during the spring fair but still wish to enjoy bullfighting in such an iconic setting, there are the season ticket novilladas.

In total there are five events, plus another one held during the San Miguel Fair in September, where some of the most promising young bullfighters will test themselves in one of the most decisive arenas in the world of bullfighting. Their goal is to gain experience, recognition and future contracts before taking the next step in their careers — the alternative, when they become full matadors.

The most prestigious novillada takes place in April as a prelude to the Feria. On that occasion, three of the most outstanding young bullfighters from the previous season will make the traditional paseíllo:

  • Emiliano Osornio, from Mexico, the clear winner in Arnedo (Zapato de Oro award and best series of natural passes) and author of the best performance in Arganda del Rey.
  • Tomás Bastos, from Portugal, winner of the Alfarero de Oro in Villaseca de la Sagra and the Extremadura Novillada Circuit.
  • Julio Norte, a young bullfighter from Salamanca and part of a bullfighting dynasty, who in his first season with horses won both the Vid de Oro in Arganda del Rey and the Castilla y León Novillada Circuit.

The bulls will come from the Talavante ranch, as José María Garzón — the new manager of the bullring on Avenida de Colón — has placed special emphasis on carefully selecting quality livestock for young bullfighters. As a result, this year’s ranches bring stronger pedigrees and well-bred bulls.

Then, in May, La Maestranza will host promising matadors such as Mario Vilau (winner of the National Novillada League), Julio Méndez, another leading name among the young ranks, and Ruiz de Velasco, a bullfighter with a strong personality who leaves his mark wherever he performs.

The rest of the line-ups feature young bullfighters from Seville and Andalusia, who have proudly represented their region whenever they have had the opportunity to perform.

Among them is Carlos Tirado, winner of the Andalusian Novillada Circuit, whose final took place last year in La Maestranza itself.

The programme concludes on 11 June with a novillada in which Sergio Rollón will make his debut in this arena, following a successful comeback in Valdemorillo after suffering the most serious injury of the 2025 season.

These are the scheduled novilladas so that, without the crowds of the major festival days, you can choose the one that suits you best and enjoy the luxury of watching bullfighting here — a treat that every true bullfighting fan should experience at least once in their life.
