It is the most important fair with the greatest economic impact in Andalusia. It has its origins in the mid-nineteenth century when it began to celebrate an agricultural and livestock fair that was incorporating taverns, kiosks and exhibitions as it grew. The party around it was gaining prominence until it became the main reason for the celebration.

It is celebrated one or two weeks after Easter and begins with the “alumbrao”, which is the lighting of the great cover that has the Real de la Feria adorned with thousands of bulbs. Currently the fairground is located in the neighborhood of Los Remedios and houses more than a thousand booths. Everything is decorated with light bulbs covered with paper, called farolillos, flowers and the floor is made of sand. The streets are named after famous bullfighters and there are public booths, free access, or private, which are the majority and which can only be accessed by invitation or accompanying a member. In the “casetas” you can eat and drink; typical dishes are “pescaíto” frito, rebujito or churros with chocolate. There is also a tablao and countless music groups to dance sevillanas, flamenco or rumbas until late in the evening.

People come dressed in their best clothes: women in flamenco dresses and men in shorts or suits and ties. And so they go to all events, so the atmosphere in the bullring of La Maestranza, which hosts the bullfighting fair, is the most elegant. Only horse-drawn carriages can circulate around the fairgrounds, so the stamping of the bulls is a must.
