If you’re in or around Seville on any Thursday in July, don’t miss the chance to visit La Maestranza. If you’ve been before, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the youthful, family-friendly atmosphere supporting the next generation of bullfighters. And if you’ve never had the privilege of stepping into its historic stands, this is the perfect time. One visit, and you’ll want to return.
The formula is simple—and it’s been a resounding success for years: an evening schedule, affordable prices, top young bullfighters without picadors, and an experience to enjoy with the whole family. This is what Thursday nights in July are all about at the Real Maestranza de Sevilla.
When the summer heat peaks, these bullfights—featuring the most promising young talent in the world of bullfighting—offer a unique evening out at the city’s architectural jewel by the river. The youthful and family-oriented crowd creates a lively and genuine atmosphere that spreads to the performers in the arena.
The cycle consists of four promotional novilladas (bullfights with young bulls and beginner bullfighters), starting at 9:00 p.m. The first three are qualifying rounds, with six young bullfighters performing each evening. The fourth and final event, held on 24 July, is the grand finale, featuring the three top performers of the series. At the end of the night, a jury will announce the winner of the competition.
Whether you’re living nearby or planning a summer getaway to soak up the beauty of Seville, make time on a Thursday night to experience the most enchanting and characterful bullring in Spain. This prestigious competition celebrates its 38th edition in 2025 and continues to grow stronger each year.
