The Maestranza Invests in the Next Generation

Seville is already looking towards the future of bullfighting. The Andalusian capital has officially unveiled a new edition of the Young Bullfighting Prospects Promotion Series, an initiative organised by Lances de Futuro that will once again turn the Real Maestranza into a showcase for some of the most promising novice bullfighters of the moment.

Held this year under the slogan “Heading Towards the Future”, the competition will bring together 18 aspiring matadors from bullfighting schools across Spain and the Americas.

The presentation carried strong symbolic significance. The participants gathered for an official group photograph aboard the historic Nao Victoria, with the Guadalquivir River and Seville’s iconic Torre del Oro providing the backdrop. The image reflected the spirit of an initiative designed to support and promote the next generation of bullfighters.

Seville Strengthens Its Commitment to Young Bullfighters 

The launch event took place at the Nao Victoria Museum and was attended by institutional representatives and organisers of the series.

Speakers highlighted the importance of continuing to provide opportunities for emerging bullfighters in an arena as prestigious and demanding as the Maestranza. Over the years, the competition has become an essential platform where young talents can demonstrate their abilities before one of the most knowledgeable and demanding bullfighting audiences in the world.

Supporting young talent remains one of the cornerstones of Seville’s bullfighting season, reinforcing a model that has helped launch the careers of many successful matadors in recent years.

Four Nights to Discover Tomorrow’s Stars 

The 2026 edition will take place over four consecutive Thursday evenings, a format that has consistently attracted strong interest from bullfighting fans.

The first three events will serve as qualifying rounds, while the fourth and final night will bring together the most successful participants to compete for overall victory.

To encourage attendance, the organisers have also introduced a range of ticket discounts. Existing season-ticket holders, young people and pensioners will all benefit from special reduced prices.

New Breeding Farms Join the Competition 

One of the most notable developments this year is the inclusion of several cattle breeders making their debut in the Seville promotion series.

Young bulls from Polo Sáiz, Pablo Mayoral and Antonio López Gibaja will be featured in the qualifying rounds, while Gabriel Rojas will provide the cattle for the grand final.

This variety will allow the novice bullfighters to face different bloodlines and styles of cattle, an essential aspect of their development and education in the profession.
